Background : Status Quo have established themselves as THE best live band ever and have entertained millions of fans over the last 30 years with their fantastic music and constant touring schedule all over the world . With the popularity of the Internet and the emergence of many Status Quo Tribute bands who play Quo's great live music to fans in many countries, it seemed logical that a Tribute CD to the great Status Quo was not only possible, but a great idea!!. Although the idea is not original (Uriah Heep tribute with Heepsteria) it seem that Status Quo as a people's band should be given something back in the form of a tribute CD or testimonial to their great music.
I am working together with Per Rannug from Norway to get this project running. It is most likely to be a Double CD depending on the response.

Who are the Tribute Bands ? Having been a fan of Status Quo since 1977 and also a guitarist in a number of bands who have played QUO songs over the last 20 years I thought I would take the next step and push the idea into a reality . My band ( Quo Vadis ) currently performs the Australian Status Quo Tribute Show and it seemed a great idea to include all the other Quo tribute bands from around the globe to contribute to this CD .

The Status Quo Tribute Bands that are participating in the Status Quo Tribute Double CD and their contributions are as follows :

General Rules and Conditions

** Please NOTE - Submissions for the Tribute CD are now closed ** These are the General Rules followed by the bands:

1. The recordings and performances must be of good quality and standard of performance , i.e. recorded in a studio with decent equipment and submitted in digital format by the deadline date . An MP3 of your recording should be sent to this email address. If you require assistance with converting your CD to MP3 format, please send me an email to the above address. CLOSED

2. A Maximum of 2 song contributions per band.

3. No song can be performed more than once . i.e. No double ups

4. Requests for songs will be taken on a first come , first served basis however the progress of the recordings will be monitored and if cannot be completed on time then the song will be made available to be performed by another band .

5. Any disputed songs will be decided upon mutually between the bands , myself and Per Rannug and / or the Producers/Red Steel.

6. The final decision on all tracks will be decided by the Red Steel (the Producers).

7. It is not a requirement that the songs are performed exactly in the same style as Status Quo does. This will allow each band to perform the songs using their own interpretation of the music. Have fun as well recording the Quo !!

I hope to have all the bands proposed songs decided by the end of the first month ( End of June 2000 ). Band & Song Cutoff now reached

Deadline was June 2000, so it's not possible to join for new bands any more

How and Where to Send Your CD/DAT CLOSED

To every tribute band sending in CDs/DATs for the tribute CD, please note the following:

1. Please label your CD/DAT and cover with band name, track list and put on the cover the contact person with e-mail address and normal mail address. There's hardly enough space on a DAT and its cover to fill out contact person information, but attach a sheet of paper with this info.
Please only send the one or those two nominated songs you have selected mentioned in the band list to record for the tribute CD!

2. Please also mark the CD/DAT and cover with "Status Quo Tribute CD" so the producer knows where it belongs among all other projects he is working on currently.

3. As an attachment to the CD/DAT send a short description of the band mentioning band members, instruments, history etc...

4. Optional: send also images with logo and band picture if available.

5. If you have already submitted your CD/DAT to Tony Marles then this will be automatically forwarded to the Producer , so you do not have to resend any CD/DAT .

It's the producer's wish that your parcels are sent as above, and that Per will forward everything to him. Per will not judge the music, performances, recordings whatever, but will send everything he receives to the producer. Any questions to the producer must be routed to Per. We will try to keep you informed about the progress of the production and manufacturing of the tribute CD as much as we can.

Beware that these things take time! I also must repeat that the final selection of songs to the tribute CD will be made by the Producer!!!

I will suggest that we set the deadline for the parcel deliveries to Per Rannug at the address above by the end October 2000 since the producer has so much to do and cannot start up production right now. Please also make sure you have a personal backup of everything sent.
The producer is very keen on hearing the songs from you all...

The actual release date for the CD would be is proposed late 2001 but again will depend on the production schedule of Red Steel Music.

The Tribute CD is on schedule for release late 2001 more news soon, final tracks are being selected by the Producer

Live Performances

My goal is to have a Status Quo Tribute Concert in the UK , Continental Europe and Australia after the release of the CD .

The concert would feature as many bands from the Tribute CD in a four to five hour action packed live performance of songs on the CD.

Suggestions for Venues and Promotion of this event are welcome as well .
